After signing two promising youngsters to the roster, the DockHounds have added a veteran presence to the team with the signing of Wilfredo Gimenez. Gimenez becomes the third player to join the team as we continue to build the roster heading into the 2022 season.
Gimenez, a 30-year-old Venezuelan-born catcher, has more than 12 years of professional baseball experience under his belt. He joins the DockHounds after spending the last two seasons with Tigres de Aragua in the Venezuelan Winter League.
“Wilfredo Gimenez was at the top of my wish list. He checks off so many boxes for us. A veteran leader, great teammate, and a plus-plus catch and throw guy that knows how to call a game,” said Manager Jim Bennett. “Our pitchers are going to love having ‘Gimi’ behind the plate. When I reached out to him, his response was ‘Yes! I want to win a championship with Lake Country in the American Association.’ This guy gets it. He plays to win the game.”
Gimenez does have experience in the American Association – he’s played three seasons in the league, suiting up with both the Gary SouthShore RailCats and the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Prior to that, he spent time with the Jacksonville Suns, the Jupiter Warheads, the Greensboro Grasshoppers and the Jamestown Jammers. With over 650 career games played, Gimenez brings experience behind the plate, elite defense and veteran leadership to the DockHounds.
