Oconomowoc, Wis. – Nick Herold. Those were the only two words that needed to be said following the DockHounds 6-0 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes Saturday evening at Wisconsin Brewing Company Park. Tonight’s win marks the first series victory for the DockHounds on the season. Additionally, Lake Country has now won three straight games for the first time in 2023.
The final line for the DockHounds starter was an extremely impressive one. Herold finished the night completing 8 innings, only allowing 3 hits and 0 runs, walking one and striking out 8. Of Herold’s 99 total pitches, 69 were strikes as he completed the longest outing by a Lake Country starting pitcher this season. Matt Mullenbach came in and closed the door in the 9th, working a clean inning with one strikeout.
Four of the six runs for the Hounds were scored in the bottom of the 1st inning. That was more than enough for Lake Country with Herold on the mound, although Lake Country did add two insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th. Thomas Jones drove in 2 runs in the 1st on a double, scoring Nick Banks and Luis Aviles Jr. Jaxx Groshans followed Jones with an RBI single, scoring Demetrius Sims. After Groshans, a sacrifice fly from Blake Tiberi drove in the fourth and final run of the inning for the DockHounds. In the 8th, Aaron Simmons hit a solo homer over the right-field wall to make it 5-0 and later in the frame, an RBI single from Luis Aviles Jr. made it 6-0.
From the top of the Lake Country lineup, Nick Banks reached base in 4 of his 5 times to the plate. Banks reached on a walk in the 1st, an error in the 2nd, a double in the 6th and a single in the 8th. After going 0 for 5 at the plate last night, Luis Aviles Jr. reached base 4 times tonight as well. In his second game with the DockHounds, Aviles had 3 singles and a walk.
With tonight’s win, Lake Country improves to 7-13 on the season. With the loss, Winnipeg falls to 8-12. The DockHounds will go for the series sweep over the Goldeyes tomorrow afternoon. Austin Faith will get the start for Lake Country. Tyler Jandron will take the ball for Winnipeg. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. from Wisconsin Brewing Company Park.
